HMJ- A Fairly Calm Week

  • In my life this week…

This week has been nice, mostly because I have had a chance to relax a little. Danger Girl had some friends come to church with us on Wednesday, and that was probably the most excitement we had this week. On Thursday I even got a couple hours to myself when Danger Girl went with those same friends to a parade. It was nice to get that alone time, and I managed to get a lot of things done I don’t normally get to work on.

  • In our homeschool this week…

We decided to take a break from clocks this week. I want Danger Girl to learn to read the clock, but right now she is just getting frustrated with it, so we aren’t going to get anywhere. Math ran a lot more smoothly this week. We even managed to get through the school days with no major meltdowns.

We also got to do some fun paper cutting projects as part of our Israel study. That was a big hit. During science we are studying bats, and Danger Girl loved figuring out how many insects a bat can eat during a whole year. I think she has decided she really likes bats because of their insect population control abilities.

We also began learning about Picasso this week. We read a little about his life, and looked at some of his paintings. Danger Girl only remembers one thing about him though. When her art teacher asked what she had learned about Picasso, Danger Girl replied that he was mean to women and children. Apparently that’s all that made an impression on her.

  • Places we’re going and people we’re seeing…

Danger Girl will be going over to spend the night with some friends this weekend. She is very excited because she also gets to go with their family to a football game. She is really loving having friends live nearby so she has someone to play with on a regular basis.

On Sunday we have a potluck at the Church building, and those same friends will be coming with us to that. We are spending a lot of time with them recently, but like I said, Danger Girl is very excited to have friends live so near us.

  • My favorite thing this week was…

I was very happy when I got to clean the house this week without someone being right behind me dragging more stuff out.

I also enjoyed having Danger Girl show a desire to help me do the dishes. Her helping slows it down, but I am not going to stop her from helping with chores if she is so willing.

  • What’s working/not working for us…

Right now things are going pretty smoothly. The only thing that is really not working is that I started the year out planning to do more field trips, and so far we have not gone on any. I think I will need to plan a field trip soon.

  • Things I’m working on…

Well now I’m working on field trip ideas 🙂

I recently did a review on the book “Wrecked”, and I have an interview with the author. You can check this out under the books tab.

  • I’m reading…

I am still reading “Who is God?”, yes still.

I also just started reading a new book, “The Chupacabra” by Stephen Randel. This book is keeping me laughing. (There will be a review on this book at the end of October).

  • I’m cooking…

So far this week, we have made raspberry limeade, and two batches of caramel apples.

On Saturday I have plans to make some strawberry-plum jam as well!

  • I’m grateful for…

My family is a great blessing to me. Even when they are rearranging my cabinets and leaving things in the middle of the floor (you can see my post about my desire for order in a house full of clutterbugs here) I still am grateful to have them.

  • I’m praying for…

I recently learned of a difficult situation for a little girl that I know. I can’t really give details, but she definitely needs prayers.

  • A photo, video, link, or quote to share…

(I just recently came across this video for learning to read with the Beattles song Hello, Goodbye. How awesome is that!)

  1. Having kids help with dishes, making food, folding clothes, etc., I think is one of the best tests of our patience 🙂 But it sure pays off! I had to learn the hard way 😉
I’m stopping by from the Homeschool Mother’s Journal hop. Nice to meet you at your blog.
    Have a great weekend.
