Is a Website Necessary?
Any quick search on Facebook business groups will tell you that the question about the need for a website is a common one. The good news is the answer is not confusing. The same search will show you a consistent answer, yes.
A website is a simple tool for getting your product, service, brand or voice out there to the public. Luckily, creating a website doesn’t have to be a complicated or cost-consuming task. There are many free and easy to use options out there. But why is this such an important tool to have?

Introduce Yourself
This is your unique space to tell the world who you are and what you have to offer. It is your own space, filled with your creativity and personality. People aren’t just looking for a product or service, they are looking for a person they can connect with. With a website you can make those connections, introducing yourself through:
- A home page that catches your audience’s attention and makes them want to learn more.
- A clever About page that introduces who you are and why someone should listen to you.
- Articles that engage people and show them why they should trust you.
There are many sources out there that introduce the idea of selling yourself, not just a product or service. The idea of selling yourself is what a website is all about. Yes, you want to get your material out there, but first people must know and trust you.

Your Portfolio
Whether you are selling a product or service, a website gives you an easy way to showcase what you have to offer. With different options available, from a simple product or service page, to more sophisticated landing pages, you can showcase what you want to sell once you have attention. Even if you don’t want to sell online, you can still showcase your product or share testimonials.
If you are offering a product, a portfolio page can offer pictures of said product, with testimonials showcasing why the product is necessary. If you want to sell them products online, you can set the page up with links to either purchase there or go to the source where the product can be purchased.
To showcase services offered, set up a page describing the services provided with testimonials from previous customers. You may want to share samples of your work if possible, but don’t share everything you have done.

Ease of Contact
A website can also offer an easy means for potential customers to contact you. Setting up a contact page, or a contact form gives your readers an easy way to get in touch with you if they want to learn more. You can also offer a newsletter which is a great way to capture new leads. When offering a means of contact, I recommend asking for:
- At least a first name
- An email address
- A note explaining why they are contacting you or how they heard about you

This is just scratching the surface on what a website has to offer. With a website you can define your niche, engage your potential customers, and create new leads for yourself. You can also experiment with potential ideas and grow your horizons as your audience increases.
Whatever you want to accomplish, a well-done website is an effective way to get your voice heard.
