Finding Your Creative Side
Creativity takes all forms.
- Writing
- Drawing
- Painting
- Sewing
- Crochet
Of course there are many other options, but you get the idea. There is no one way to get in touch with your creative side.
While I usually focus on writing as a creative outlet, today I want to talk about hand-craft projects. Projects such as sewing, crochet, knitting, quilting, etc.. There is a long list of ideas to fall into this category.
You may think of handcrafts as a hobby, or even a project for older generations, but this just isn’t true. There is a lot of potential for creating a business if you have a knack or desire for learning some of these crafts.

Hand-Crafts
While hand-crafts used to be considered “little old lady” projects by much of the younger generations, many of these modes of creativity have made a comeback. You can find numerous books on modern patterns and fun project ideas.
These projects can be a great creative outlet as well as provide you a fun way to make unique gifts for those you love.
(I have a quilt my mother-in-law made me that is one of my greatest treasures because it is one of the last quilts she made)
But, maybe you want to do something more with your crafting abilities than making unique gifts for friends and family.
Not only are these projects great as a creative outlet, but you can also make money with your creations.
How Could You Make Money with Crafts?
There are many options for creating a business around your crafting abilities. Probably the most obvious way is to sell your creations online. You can create an online store on your own website, or on a platform like Shopify. You can also use other platforms for selling your creations.
Sites like Etsy allow you to sell your handmade crafts, creating unique online store fronts for your creations. You can also sell your unique creations on sites like Ebay. Or, do a little research and find a platform that you feel comfortable with.
But selling the crafts themselves is not the only option.
Do you have some fun patterns you have created? You could sell these patterns to other crafty people looking for new ideas.
Perhaps you could use your skills to teach others.
- You could teach newbies how to get started, creating a class to teach technique, share your secrets, and share resources needed to get started.
- If you have advanced skills, you can teach new techniques to people looking to increase their skills.
- You could create a course on how to create your own patterns.
Pretty much any skills you can share with others can be used to create an online course. You can use a platform like Podia, Teachable, or Thinkific to share these courses.
You could create a blog to share your crafting ideas, and share affiliate links for resources that could be useful to your audience.
For instance, Ultimate Bundles offers different bundles throughout the year, including the Handmade with Love Bundle of resources, and would be a great place to start with affiliate marketing.
With a blog, you can also create and sell planners, checklists, or other helpful resources for your fellow crafty people.
As you can see, there are many options to make money from your crafts and crafting knowledge. You could use your abilities to create a side-hustle, make a little extra money, or even as a full-time business model.
